About the fair
Des & MJ, owners of Your Triad Homes Team, are sponsoring the second annual Children's Business Fair.  We will have 30 booths at the Greensboro Elk's Lodge, 2201 W. Cornwallis Drive, on November 23rd from 10am-1pm.

**There is a $20 participation fee required at time of application.  This helps offset the expense of the venue rental.  You will receive an email with payment instructions (Venmo, cash, check.)

In collaboration with Acton Academy, the Acton School of Business, and the generous support of our donors and volunteers, we all believe that principled entrepreneurs are heroes and role models for the next generation.

Des & MJ started their Real Estate careers out separately but joined forces in 2020 during the pandemic. They have a combined 30 years’ experience in the Triad, helping clients buy and sell homes!

Des, aka Desiree Wilson, was born and raised here in the Triad and loves calling this place home. MJ, aka Michaela Jarrett, found her way here as a college student and is a proud alumnus of High Point University!

Together they are known as the “Dynamic Duo”! They say opposites attract and each one of them brings different strengths to the table, all with the same goal in mind – serving Triad residents and newcomers, one home at a time!

They say two is better than one, and with two agents working for you, you will feel the difference! From scheduling house showings, meeting to discuss your future moving plans, creating that plan and putting it in motion, and signing appropriate documents, they have you covered! Whether you are a first-time home buyer, moving up or downsizing, a seasoned investor or just getting started, they have the skills necessary to guide you.

Outside of Real Estate, Des has two grown daughters and has been happily married for almost 25 years! She enjoys painting, writing and home design.

MJ has two school aged daughters, is happily married and has two loveable dogs! She enjoys volunteering at her kids’ school, spending time with her family and taking cruises!

Frequently asked questions

How many businesses will you accept?

We will accept up to 35 businesses.

How do I apply? Can I apply as part of a group?

Application must be submitted online. Please submit one application for each business. Children working as a group should submit one application that includes each child’s information. No more than 2 participants per business.

What is on the application?

The application asks kids to think through some simple, but important elements of their business:

  • What product or service do you plan to sell?
  • What price will you charge for each product/service? How much will each product/service cost you?
  • How will you pay for your startup costs? If someone is helping you with your startup costs, how will you pay that person back?
  • How will you advertise/market your business before the fair?
  • At the end of the fair, how will you determine if your business was a success?

What if someone else has the same business idea?

Two cupcake businesses? Not a problem. In general, we will let market forces play out, though we will let later entries know if another applicant has a similar idea so the later entrant can decide what to do.

Will electricity be available?

Unfortunately, we are not able to provide electricity to the booths.

What are the rules?

This event is designed to give children the experience of selling a product or service. If a parent is found selling or promoting a child’s product or service, their child’s business will be disqualified from the competition.

Parents of younger children may sit in the booth, but the children should be responsible for set up, customer interaction, and sales.

Parents may help their child fill out the application, but we expect the children to do as much as possible by themselves.
