Kirkland Children's Business Fair is an opportunity for children ages 6-15 to explore their passion, ideate, create a product of their interest, and launch their own business. Kids gain a hands-on experience with marketing and selling their creations with their friends and family as customers in a fun and engaging way during our one-day marketplace. It gives kids in our community an opportunity to spread their entrepreneurial wings!
The event will take place on June 19th, 2021 from 11 am – 4 pm in a reserved space inside Alderwood Mall in Lynnwood, right opposite to the VANS & Lolli & Pops stores inside the mall. You would enter the mall using the same entrance that has the kids' indoor play area. For those who are not familiar with the Alderwood mall, you can use the entrance that is close to the South East end of the mall. The doors to the building will be on the east side of Macy's next to the large construction site. This would be the closest to get to our space.
We will host several young entrepreneurs and the event is free.
Kids are welcome to create a product, build a marketing strategy, and then open for customers on the day of the event. The children are responsible for the setup, sales, and interacting with customers. Applicants are encouraged to spread this word and share with their friends and family.
There will be no stall fee.
If your child is interested to participate but not sure what they would like to create/sell at the fair, that is okay and can be decided closer to the event. Please go ahead and apply to submit your application with minimal information so we get an idea of how many kids will participate.
There will be tables arranged, so your child will not need to get anything besides their sale items and anything specific to their booth [like a table cloth].

Sanika Datar, Kirkland.
As a student at Environmental and Adventure School, Sanika participated in the community service activities that are offered at the school and discovered how much she enjoyed giving back to her community. She realized that you don’t always need to make a large change in your community to make a difference.
She is an entrepreneur and passionate to mentor and encourage entrepreneurship in children in a practical and fun way within her community. She was nominated as a Young Achiever by the City of Kirkland for her contributions. She is a Youth Board Member of the International Water1st Organization, and a student advocate in her school's Green Team.
Her motto: "Leave this world a little better than you found it.”
Application must be submitted online. Please submit one application for each business. Children working as a group should submit one application that includes each child’s information. No more than 3 participants per business.
What is on the application?
The application asks kids to think through some simple, but important elements of their business. However, if your child is interested to participate but not sure what they would like to create/sell at the fair, that is okay and can be decided closer to the event. Please go ahead and apply to submit your application with minimal information so we get an idea of how many kids will participate.
What if someone else has the same business idea?
Two cupcake businesses? Not a problem. In general, we will let market forces play out, though we will let later entries know if another applicant has a similar idea so the later entrant can decide what to do.
How will the fair be set up?
The fair will be an indoor event with tables/booths. Each business will be given a table for their booth. Table cloths will not be provided. We are not able to accommodate businesses requiring electricity.
Will electricity be available?
Unfortunately, we are not able to provide electricity to the booths.
What are the rules?
This event is designed to give children the experience of selling a product or service. Parents of younger children may stay by their booth, but the children should be responsible for set up, customer interaction, and sales.
