About the fair
Observe the opportunity for children to launch their very own business!

Children develop a brand, create a product or service, build a marketing strategy, and then open for customers at our one-day marketplace.

This event is sponsored by Acton Academy, and the generous support of our donors and volunteers.  We all believe that principled entrepreneurs are heroes and role models for the next generation.

Whether an entrepreneur is famous like Steve Jobs or Sara Blakely or they are one of the thousands of unsung business owners across this country, these are the people who make sacrifices to innovate, create jobs and serve their communities.

Frequently asked questions

What is the Acton Children’s Business Fair?

The Acton Children’s Business Fair inspires children to discover their inner entrepreneur. As one of the largest entrepreneurship events for kids, this one-day market gives children the opportunity to create, launch, and run their own businesses.

How many businesses will you accept?

We will accept up to 65 businesses.

How do I apply? Can I apply as part of a group?

Applications must be submitted online, with one application per business.
Children may apply as a group, but only one application should be submitted per business, including information for each participant.
Each business may have up to 3 children.

What if someone else has the same business idea?

Two cupcake businesses? No problem!
We generally let market forces play out. If a similar idea has already been submitted, later applicants will be notified so they can decide how they’d like to proceed.

What is included in the KIT?

The fair will be a tented outdoor event with tables. Each business will receive:

  • Half of a 6-foot table (shared with one other business) or a full 6-foot table

  • Full tent coverage

  • 1–2 stools

  • Tablecloth

  • Table Logo Signs

  • CBF T-shirt per participant

  • Trash bag

Will electricity be available?

Yes, electricity will be available at some booths. Please let us know if you need an electric outlet. All participants are required to bring their own extension cord.

What are the rules?

This event is designed to give children real-world experience selling a product or service.

  • Children are responsible for setup, customer interaction, and sales.

  • Parents of younger children may sit in the booth, but should allow their child to lead.

  • Parents may help with the application, but children should do as much of the work as possible themselves.

How did the Acton Children’s Business Fair get started?

The first Acton Children’s Business Fair was created in 2007 in Austin, Texas, by Jeff and Laura Sandefer and a few other families who wanted to spark curiosity and entrepreneurship in their children.
That first fair featured 7 young entrepreneurs and about 25 attendees. Today, the Austin fair hosts over 115 businesses and welcomes 1,500+ attendees.
