Hello,
My name is Alana Jones. I am the CEO of H.E.A.R.T. Centered Child and Family Therapy Inc. in Hayward, Ca. I am also the Hayward Acton Children's Business Fair Host, along with my husband Danny Jones and daughter Kira Jones, who is a 3D Printing vendor. My daughter and I had attended an Acton Children's Business Fair in another city that was far away so we wanted to bring this fair to Hayward! The aim is to host 3-4 Children's Fairs per year (Spring, Summer, Fall/Winter). We care a tremendous amount of the youth in our community and look forward to building more opportunities.

What is the Downtown Hayward Street Party?

The Downtown Hayward Street Party is an admission-free, community event for families. This event is held in partnership with the Hayward Area Recreation District and the City of Hayward, attracting over 6,000 attendees.  The event includes live music, delicious eats, local shopping, and lots of fun activities!

How many businesses will you accept?

30 businesses will be accepted for our July 17, 2025 Biz Kid Market at the Downtown Hayward Street Party.

What kind of business will you accept?

We are particularly encouraging makers, resellers, and service providers. Due to Alameda County Department of Environmental Health regulations, we are not able to accommodate any businesses that sell food or beverages.

Where should I begin?

Register and attend a workshop. Come up with a business idea, put it into action, and host a vendor booth at the July 17, 2025 Downtown Hayward Street Party.

How much does it cost?

There is no cost to register for a vendor booth and no cost to join our education workshops, thanks to a generous grant from Amazon Web Services and Change X, support from Acton Children’s Business Fair, and our partners Hayward Area Recreation District and City of Hayward.

Do I have to attend the workshops?

The workshops are open to any children ages 6-18 who are interested in entrepreneurship, regardless if they are going to participate in the Biz Kid Market at the July 17, 2025 Street Party or not.

If you are interested in being a vendor at the Biz Kid Market, we strongly encourage you to attend at least one workshop, though it is not required.

How do I apply? Can I apply as part of a group?

Applications must be submitted online. Please submit one application for each business. Youth working as a group should submit one application. No more than 2 participants per business (space is limited).

What is on the application?

The application asks kids to think through some simple, but important elements of their business:

  • What product or service do you plan to sell?

  • What price will you charge for each product/service? How much will each product/service cost you?

  • How will you pay for your startup costs? If someone is helping you with your startup costs, how will you pay that person back?

  • How will you advertise/market your business before the fair?

  • At the end of the fair, how will you determine if your business was a success?

What if someone else has the same business idea?

Two crochet businesses? Not a problem. In general, we will let market forces play out, though we will let later entries know if another applicant has a similar idea so the later entrant can decide what to do.

How will the Biz Kid Market be set up?

The Biz Kid Market will be a tented outdoor event with booths. Each business will be provided one 6 foot table,  full-cover tenting, and 1-2 chairs. Solid color / plain table cloths will be provided. We are not able to accommodate businesses requiring electricity.

Will electricity be available?

Unfortunately, we are not able to provide electricity to the booths.

What are the rules?

This event is designed to give young people the experience of selling a product or service. If a guardian/adult is found selling or promoting a child’s product or service, we will request the child resume management of their table or to resign from the event.

Guardians may sit in the booth, but the youth should be responsible for set up, customer interaction, and sales.

Guardians may help their child fill out the application, but we expect the children to do as much as possible by themselves.

We are particularly encouraging makers, resellers, and service providers. Due to Alameda County Department of Environmental Health regulations, we are not able to accommodate any businesses that sell food or beverages.

How did the Biz Kid Market get started?

The Hayward Chamber of Commerce is a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting business in Hayward since 1941. The BizKid program is the first initiative of the Junior Hayward Chamber of Commerce. The program is run by CEO, Lucy Lopez, Operations Director Amy Compani, both who have elementary – high school aged children in Hayward and are closely connected to our Hayward school communities. In addition, we have the support of our partners Alana Jones (Hayward host of Acton Children’s Business Fairs and CEO of H.E.A.R.T. Centered Child and Family Therapy Inc.) and Klarize Bautista (Hayward Aggies volunteer and leader of the Bay Area Backyard Movement).
