Hello,
My name is Alana Jones. I am the CEO of H.E.A.R.T. Centered Child and Family Therapy Inc. in Hayward, Ca. I am also the Hayward Acton Children's Business Fair Host, along with my husband Danny Jones and daughter Kira Jones, who is a 3D Printing vendor. My daughter and I had attended an Acton Children's Business Fair in another city that was far away so we wanted to bring this fair to Hayward! The aim is to host 3-4 Children's Fairs per year (Spring, Summer, Fall/Winter). We care a tremendous amount of the youth in our community and look forward to building more opportunities.

Frequently asked questions

How many businesses will you accept?

20 businesses will be accepted for the December 6, 2025 Biz Kid Market at the City of Hayward Light up the Season event.

What kind of business will you accept?

Makers, resellers, and service providers. Due to Alameda County Department of Environmental Health regulations, we are not able to accommodate any businesses that sell food or beverages.

How much does it cost?

There is no cost to register for a vendor booth, thanks to sponsorship from the Downtown Hayward Improvement Association, and support from Acton Children’s Business Fair.

Who can join this event?

Children and teens ages 6-18 who are interested in entrepreneurship and have experience selling at least one pop-up / marketplace / business fair.

We will begin a new series of workshops in the Spring for those who don’t yet have a business idea, inventory, and/or have never been a vendor at a pop-up/marketplace/business fair. Join our mailing list for more information.

How do I apply? Can I apply as part of a group?

Applications must be submitted online. Please submit one application for each business. Youth working as a group should submit one application. No more than 2 participants per business (space is limited).

What is on the application?

The application asks kids to think through some simple, but important elements of their business:

  • What product or service do you plan to sell?

  • What price will you charge for each product/service? How much will each product/service cost you?

  • How will you pay for your startup costs? If someone is helping you with your startup costs, how will you pay that person back?

  • How will you advertise/market your business before the fair?

  • At the end of the fair, how will you determine if your business was a success?

What if someone else has the same business idea?

Two crochet businesses? Not a problem. In general, we will let market forces play out, though we will let later entries know if another applicant has a similar idea so the later entrant can decide what to do.

How will the Biz Kid Marketplace be set up?

The Biz Kid Marketplace will be a tented outdoor event with booths. Each business will be provided one 6 foot table, 1-2 chairs, and a shared tent/canopy. Solid color / plain table cloths will be provided. We are not able to provide electricity. The event is held rain or shine. In the event of rain, we will plan for a covered space in a nearby parking garage area.

Will electricity be available?

Unfortunately, we are not able to provide electricity to the booths.

What is the Light up the Season Event?

The event is hosted by the City of Hayward with the goal of creating a space for Hayward residents to come together in a spirit of inclusion and share and celebrate the winter-time traditions of our diverse communities. These include Twin Luminaries, Mawlid al-Nabi, Chalica, Bodhi Day, Las Posadas, Hanukkah, Winter Solstice, Christmas, Kwanzaa, Lohri, Pongal and other occasions sharing a common theme of remembering there is light even during the season of long nights.

The event will feature performances and offerings by community organizations, school groups and local businesses. The Winter night market vendors will sweet snacks, traditional foods and fun holiday gifts.

There also will be the traditional lighting of a seasonal tree and other decorations just after sundown.

The City of Hayward has not updated the event on their website yet, but check back soon for updates: Light Up The Season | City of Hayward - Official website
What are the rules?

This event is designed to give young people the experience of selling a product or service. If a guardian/adult is found selling or promoting a child’s product or service, we will request the child resume management of their table or to resign from the event.

Guardians may sit in the booth, but the youth should be responsible for set up, customer interaction, and sales.

Guardians may help their child fill out the application, but we expect the children to do as much as possible by themselves.

We are particularly encouraging makers, resellers, and service providers. Due to Alameda County Department of Environmental Health regulations, we are not able to accommodate any businesses that sell food or beverages.
