You don’t have to be a professional event planner to host one. Our resources are designed to make it simple, easy, and fun. Plus, it’s free. In fact, we’ll send you money. Here’s what we help you with:
Jeff and Laura Sandefer wanted to spark a sense of wonder and entrepreneurship in their children. With the help of a few other families, they hosted a small fair in Austin, Texas. They enjoyed the experience so much, they knew they had to share it.
The Acton Children’s Business fair is a gift from the Sandefer family, who founded the non-profit Acton Academy network, for young entrepreneurs around the world.
Hosting a fair can be surprisingly inexpensive. For a small fair, all you need is a small yard, a few donated card tables and some excited young entrepreneurs from your neighborhood. The Acton Children's Business Fair doesn't charge any fees. Hosts are free to cover costs through sponsorships, charging for having a booth, or using our prize money to offset costs.
Smaller fairs will fit in a front yard or local greenspace. Others use churches or community centers or parks.
For a small fair with 8 to 10 tables, hosts report 3-4 weeks is plenty of time. Larger fairs, of course, require up to several months of planning.
City and state laws vary by location, and many communities offer exemptions for local events. We recommend contacting your city government or Chamber of Commerce.
The ACBF organization offers guidance and resources to help hosts plan and execute their fairs. This includes providing promotional materials, guidelines, a host guidebook, and prize money to help offset costs. The host is responsible for running the fair, following local laws, and making sure the event is successful.
That’s okay! There is more than enough entrepreneurial spirit to go around. Hosts can reserve a 2-week block within 10 miles of the fair location to avoid overlapping events.
151 people applied this week to host a fair. Submit your video now to reserve your location.
