An amazing opportunity for children to launch heir very own startup business!

Kids ages 5 to 14 are invited to take part in the First Annual Trumbull Children’s Business Fair!
Do you think your 5 year old is an entrepreneur?
Stand back and let them show you how they can build their own brand, create a complete business from scratch, make their own products and build a marketing strategy, then open for customers at our one-day marketplace! All this, with little to no help from parents!
Kids ARE allowed to sell baked goods, lemonades and similar drinks as well.

During this process, parents can guide the kids (specially young ones ages 5-10) how to create a startup capital ( loans taken from family must be returned), calculate cost and profit. The kids are in charge for this event and will be SOLELY responsible for making their products or creating their services, booth set up and interaction and sales with customers.
They will be provided with one 6 foot table and two chairs at the venue- no table covers will be provided. Parents are asked to accompany the kids at the booths but STRICTLY requested not to sell for the kids, they can assist the younger kids with accepting credit cards and making change only. This is your child’s day to SHINE, let them take center stage and amaze you!

The event will be held RAIN or SHINE  and a booth FEE of $25 Is required at time of registration.
There will be an application acceptance procedure based on items being sold and age of participants (we will try our best to include all age groups from 5-14). Once application is accepted, the fee is non refundable, in case application cannot be accepted the fee will be refunded. Last date for registration is Monday August 26, 2019!

Kids can participate in partnership with other kids, we will accept up to 3 partners for one booth.

Each participant will receive a ā€œwelcome bagā€ containing snacks and drinks (sponsored by CodeNinja of Trumbull) at the door upon arrival.

To add more excitement and truly recognize our new entrepreneurs, all sales will be stopped at 4pm and entrepreneurs will be asked to wear business casual attire (jackets and shoes- NO sneakers) and walk down a red carpet and accept Trophies (sponsored by Kumon of Trumbull).

This event is organized by Malvika Kumar and sponsored by Acton Academy, the Acton School of Business, and the generous support of our donors and volunteers.  We all believe that principled entrepreneurs are heroes and role models for the next generation.

Frequently asked questions

What is the Acton Children’s Business Fair?

The Acton Children’s Business Fair inspires children to discover their inner entrepreneur. The largest entrepreneurship event for kids in North America, this one-day market gives children the opportunity to showcase their very own businesses.

How many businesses will you accept?

We will accept up to 15 businesses.

Where should I begin?

Start with our resources page. Read inspiring stories about other young entrepreneurs and play games to hone your business skills.

How do I apply? Can I apply as part of a group?

Application must be submitted online. Please submit one application for each business. Children working as a group should submit one application that includes each child’s information. No more than 3 participants per business.

What is on the application?

The application asks kids to think through some simple, but important elements of their business:

  • What product or service do you plan to sell?
  • What price will you charge for each product/service? How much will each product/service cost you?
  • How will you pay for your startup costs? If someone is helping you with your startup costs, how will you pay that person back?
  • How will you advertise/market your business before the fair?
  • At the end of the fair, how will you determine if your business was a success?

What if someone else has the same business idea?

Two cupcake businesses? Not a problem. In general, we will let market forces play out, though we will let later entries know if another applicant has a similar idea so the later entrant can decide what to do.

How will the fair be set up?

The fair will be an indoor event with tables. Each business will be given one 6 foot table and two chairs- table covers will NOT be provided.  We are NOT able to accommodate businesses requiring electricity.

Will electricity be available?

Unfortunately, we are not able to provide electricity to the booths.

What are the rules?

This event is designed to give children the experience of selling a product or service. The children will be responsible for setting up thier booths and selling to the customers themselves. Parents of younger children may sit in the booth, but the children should be responsible for set up, customer interaction, and sales.Parents of children (ages 5-10) may assist with accepting credit cards or making change but are strictly asked not to sell or interact with the customers!
Parents may help their child fill out the application, but we expect the children to do as much as possible by themselves.

How did the Acton Children’s Business Fair get started?

Jeff and Laura Sandefer and a few other families wanted to spark a sense of wonder and entrepreneurship in their children so they created the first Acton Children’s Business Fair in Austin, Texas, in 2007. That year, there were seven entrepreneurs and around 25 attendees. Now, there are over 115 entrepreneurs and 1,500 attendees at the Acton Children's Business Fair in Austin.
