Frequently asked questions

What is the Dublin Business Fair?

The Dublin Business Fair inspires children to discover their inner entrepreneur. This one-day market gives children the opportunity to showcase their very own businesses. Check the description for more information.

How many businesses will you accept?

We will accept up to 25 businesses.

Where should I begin?

Start with our resources page. Use the instruction packet sent to you via email and contact us at dhsearthquakeoutreach@gmail.com for advice. We are here to guide!

How do I apply? Can I apply as part of a group?

An application must be submitted online. Please submit one application per child. If your child has a group in mind, group member names will be asked on the application. No more or less than 2 to 4 participants per business.

What is on the application? After filling out the registration form, a separate application will be sent as soon as payment and groups have been finalized. The application asks kids to think through some simple, but important elements of their business:

  • What product or service do you plan to sell?
  • What price will you charge for each product/service? How much will each product/service cost you?
  • How will you pay for your startup costs? If someone is helping you with your startup costs, how will you pay that person back?
  • How will you advertise/market your business before the fair?
  • At the end of the fair, how will you determine if your business was a success?

What if someone else has the same business idea?

Two cupcake businesses? Not a problem. In general, we will let market forces play out, though we will let later entries know if another applicant has a similar idea so the later entrant can decide what to do.

How will the fair be set up?

Each business will be given a booth with an 8-foot table (to share with one other business), resources, and 4 chairs. Table cloths will not be provided.

What are the rules?

This event is designed to give children the experience of selling a product or service. If a parent is found selling or promoting a child’s product or service, their child’s business will be disqualified from the competition.

Parents of younger children may sit in the booth, but the children should be responsible for set up, customer interaction, and sales.

Parents may help their child fill out the application, but we expect the children to do as much as possible by themselves.

What is the DHS Earthquake Outreach and Enrichment Program?

The goal of our club, Earthquake Outreach and Enrichment Program, is to lend a helping hand for children who are commonly impacted by earthquakes, and serve as a guide for students who are endangered by earthquakes and not prepared for the disaster coming their way. The number one goal of many schools is to keep their students safe. However, many schools lack earthquake safety information and training. They do not know how to prepare for a disaster or how to keep their students safe..  The outreach aspect of our club is to reach out and inform parents how to educate children and their parents on what to do during an earthquake and implement a drill system in numerous schools. This can only be accomplished with the second aspect of our club which is to enrich or educate students with the safety procedures, and practices necessary during an earthquake in order to keep themselves safe. Our first target school is DSET public school run by Dr. Vijay Tiwari and placed in Sikandarpur, Uttar Pradesh, India.
