About the fair
Acton Children's Business Fair at LCCS inspires students in grades 1-12 to discover their inner entrepreneur as they launch their very own startup business!

Students will develop a brand, create a product or service, build a marketing strategy, and then open for customers at their very own one-day marketplace.

We will host student business booths at the 7th annual Acton Children's Business Fair on on Saturday, April 18, from 10 am-1 pm.

Cost to participate is only $10 (an additional $10 if you need electricity at your booth). The fair is limited to the first 60 businesses, so apply today! Prizes will be awarded in three different age categories for the most original idea, highest business potential, and best presentation.

This event is sponsored by Acton Academy, the Acton School of Business, and the generous support of our donors and volunteers.

Frequently asked questions

What is the Acton Children’s Business Fair?
The Acton Children’s Business Fair inspires children to discover their inner entrepreneur. This one-day market gives children the opportunity to showcase their very own businesses.

How many businesses will you accept?
We will accept up to 70 businesses.

Are there age restrictions?
Students must be in grades 1-12 to participate. Businesses will be judged in three separate age categories - grades 1-3, grades 4-6, and grades 7-8. Businesses of students in grades 9-12 will not be considered for awards.

Can students work in groups?
Yes, students can work in groups of up to 3 people. The group will be judged in the grade-level category of its oldest member.

What if someone else has the same business idea?
Two cupcake businesses? Not a problem. In general, we will let market forces play out, though we will let later entries know if another applicant has a similar idea so the later entrant can decide what to do.

How will the fair be set up?
The fair will be an indoor event. Each business will be given a 6-foot table and 2 chairs. Tablecloths will not be provided.

Will electricity be available?
Electricity is available to a limited number of booths for an additional $10 fee.

How do I apply?
Application must be submitted online. Please submit one application for each business. Children working as a group should submit one application that includes each child’s information.

What is on the application?
The application asks students to think through some simple, but important elements of their business:
  • What product or service do you plan to sell?
  • What price will you charge for each product/service? How much will each product/service cost you?
  • How will you pay for your startup costs? If someone is helping you with your startup costs, how will you pay that person back?
  • How will you advertise/market your business before the fair?
  • At the end of the fair, how will you determine if your business was a success?

How do I pay for my booth and confirm my participation in the business fair?
After your application is reviewed, you will receive an acceptance email with a link to confirm participation and pay for your booth.

How much help can parent/guardians provide to the student?
This fair is meant to get the students' hands dirty in the world of business by experiencing what entrepreneurship is like on a small scale. For this to take place, they need to drive the process. Please encourage your students to do as much of the work on their own. Production, marketing, and sales are all the responsibility of the student.
  • Students grades 1-3 are permitted to be supervised by a parent in their booth. Parents may help with transactions, but the student is expected to handle all sales interactions on their own.
  • Students grades 4-8 are not permitted to have a parent in the booth with them, although one parent/guardian (or designated responsible adult) is required to be present for the duration of the event.
  • Students grades 9-12 may not have a parent in the booth with them and are not required to have a parent/guardian present at the event.
