What is Project XL?
Project XL Readiness Program, Inc. is an educational nonprofit located in Fayetteville, Georgia with a mission to inspire and support youth by exposing them to college and career opportunities, post-secondary planning, and financial literacy. Throughout the program, students learn how to develop their interests and talents and craft a clear and purposeful vision of their futures as productive global citizens.
Who can apply?
Registration is open to children ages 5-15 who plan to sell their products and services. Every registered business will be advertised on our social media page.
How do I apply? Can I apply as part of a group?
Applications must be submitted online. Please submit one application for each business. There will only be one business name for each business. Children working as a group should submit one application that includes each child’s information.
What is on the application?
The application asks kids to think through some simple, but important elements of their business:
- What product or service do you plan to sell?
- What price will you charge for each product/service?
- How much will each product/service cost you?
- How will you pay for your startup costs? Will it be an investment or loan?
- How will you advertise/market your business before the fair?
- At the end of the fair, how will you determine if your business was a success?
What if someone else has the same business idea?
Two cupcake businesses? Not a problem. In general, we will let market forces play out, though we will let later entries know if another applicant has a similar idea so the later entrant can decide what to do.
How will the fair be set up?
The fair will take place outdoors at City Park in Fayetteville Georgia. Each business will be given space for a booth. Chairs, tents, decorations, and any other business necessities will be the participant's sole responsibility.
Will electricity be available?
Electricity will not be available. Generators, extension cords, lights, and any other business necessities will be the participant's sole responsibility.
What are the rules?
This event is designed to give children the experience of selling a product or service. If a parent is found selling or promoting a child’s product or service on the day of the fair, their child’s business will be disqualified from the competition.
Parents of younger children may sit in the booth, but the children should be responsible for table setup, customer interaction, and sales.
Parents may help their children fill out the application, but we expect the children to do as much as possible by themselves. We would love for all parents to sit back and watch what their children can do!
