About the fair
An opportunity for children to launch their very own startup business to raise money for DMARC!

Kids develop a brand, create a product or service, build a marketing strategy, and then open for customers at our one-day marketplace.

Prizes awarded! Most Creative, Most Business Potential, Most Money Raised.

We will host booths at our 1st annual event at Saint Francis of Assisi on April 28th from 5pm – 8pm.

Whether an entrepreneur is famous or they are one of the thousands of unsung business owners across this country, these are the people who make sacrifices to innovate, create jobs and serve their communities.

Thank you for believing in your children! We believe that each child has a gift that can change the world in a profound way. We hope we can help your child continue to learn that they can do hard things, be accountable, and, most importantly, find their calling in life that will help them change the world.

Frequently asked questions

What is the Children’s Business Fair?

The Children’s Business Fair inspires children to discover their inner entrepreneur. This one-day market gives children the opportunity to showcase their very own businesses.

How many businesses will you accept?

The number is unlimited, but applications must be submitted by the deadline to participate. Children should be between 6-14 years old.

Where should I begin?

Start brainstorming ideas! Do some research on different children's business ideas. It could be homemade, store bought, upcycled, a service, a magic trip, a photo booth, anything! Find something that your child gets excited about and go from there.

How do I apply? Can I apply as part of a group?

Applications must be submitted online. Please submit one application for each business. Children working as a group should submit one application that includes each child’s information. No more than 2 participants per business, unless participants are siblings.

What is on the application?

The application asks kids to think through some simple, but important elements of their business:

  • What product or service do you plan to sell?
  • What price will you charge for each product/service? How much will each product/service cost you?
  • How will you pay for your startup costs? If someone is helping you with your startup costs, how will you pay that person back?
  • How will you advertise/market your business before the fair?
  • At the end of the fair, how will you determine if your business was a success?

What if someone else has the same business idea?

Two cupcake businesses? Not a problem. We will let market forces play out and will make an effort to not place similar businesses next to each other.

How will the fair be set up?

The fair will be an indoor event with tables. Each business will be given a table (size TBD) and 2 chairs. Table cloths will not be provided.

Will electricity be available?

Unfortunately, we are not able to provide electricity to the booths.

What are the rules?

This event is designed to give children the experience of selling a product or service.

Parents of younger children may sit in the booth, but the children should be responsible for set up, customer interaction, and sales. Give your kids the chance to shine!

Parents may help their child fill out the application online, but we expect the children to do as much as possible by themselves.

Payments
The forms of payment you will accept are up to you. Parents may assist their child in accepting electronic payments. If cash is being exchanged, please allow the child to accept and process payments independently.  Please have your child bring cash to make change for purchases.

To support our Parish's commitment to the DMARC food pantry, we are asking that our entrepreneur's donate their profits to DMARC. A family's expenses can be recuperated and then 100% of their net profits would go to DMARC's mission.

Up to 30% of the people DMARC's food pantry serves are children. It's an opportunity for our SFA family to have tons of fun...AND do something REALLY GREAT for a whole lot of kids.
