Observe the opportunity for children to launch their very own startup business!

Come visit the newest business people of our local Wisconsin communities! The children will develop a brand, create a product or service, build a marketing strategy, and then open for customers at our one-day marketplace at the Turtle Lake Park!

During Turtle Lake, Wisconsin's annual Spring Market Day, we will host up to 36 booths for this new event. Be Ready! The event will take place on May 18, 2019, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

Booth fees are $25 for indoor and $15 for outdoor. Space has filled fast! You must have your fee paid before April 30, 2019, the last day that applications will be accepted.

This Children's Fair event is sponsored by Acton Academy, the Acton School of Business, and the generous support of local businesses and volunteers.  JLR Photography of Turtle Lake is hosting and coordinating Turtle Lake's Children's Fair. We all believe that principled entrepreneurs are heroes and role models for the next generation.

Whether an entrepreneur is famous like John Menard or Oprah Winfrey or they are one of the thousands of unsung business owners across this country, These are the people who make sacrifices to innovate, create jobs and serve their communities.

Frequently asked questions

What is the Acton Children’s Business Fair?

The Acton Children’s Business Fair inspires children to discover their inner entrepreneur. The largest entrepreneurship event for kids in North America, this one-day market gives children the opportunity to showcase their very own businesses.

How many businesses will you accept?

We have available space for up to 20 indoor vendors and space for up to 50 outdoor Kidpreneur businesses.

Where should I begin?

Start with our resources page. Read inspiring stories about other young entrepreneurs and play games to hone your business skills. You can also contact the Fair host, Jennifer, by email: ChildrensFairTurtleLake@gmail.com.

How do I apply? Can I apply as part of a group?

Application must be submitted online or by mail no later than April 30, 2019. Please submit one application for each business. Children working as a group should submit one application that includes each child’s information. No more than 3 participants per business.

What is on the application?

The application asks kids to think through some simple, but important elements of their business:

  • What product or service do you plan to sell?
  • What price will you charge for each product/service? How much will each product/service cost you?
  • How will you pay for your startup costs? If someone is helping you with your startup costs, how will you pay that person back?
  • How will you advertise/market your business before the fair?
  • At the end of the fair, how will you determine if your business was a success?

How much does it cost?
Each booth space fee is $25 for indoor and $15 for outdoor. Booth fees are to be paid using the PayPal link on this website or by mailing to PO Box 145, Turtle Lake, Wisconsin 54889.

All sponsorships and donations to the Turtle Lake Children’s Business Fair will be handled by the Turtle Lake Friends of the Library (a 501C3 nonprofit organization). If you would like additional information on sponsor volunteer opportunities, please email childrensfairturtlelake@gmail.com and request a sponsorship form. You may also contact Jennifer at 715-541-2384.

What if someone else has the same business idea?

Two cupcake businesses? Two slime businesses? Two is no problem. However, if we receive more than two applications for the same type of product we will ask the third applicant to please choose another item to sell.

How will the fair be set up?

The fair will be located at the Turtle Lake Park. There will be up to two buildings available for indoor vendors as well as a small, covered concrete pad outdoor area. Indoor and covered space is limited to approximately 20 vendors.

Tents, tables, and chairs will not be provided.

Outdoor booths are welcomed, but tent, chairs and tables are not provided for any outdoor booths.

Please contact Jennifer with any questions!

Are there prizes?
YES! There will be a select number of judges wandering the grounds on Fair day. They will select their favorite booth according to predetermined criteria. More prize information will become available as the Fair date in 2019 gets closer.

Will electricity be available?

Electricity is not available.

What are the rules?

This event is designed to give children the experience of selling a product or service. We love our kids and want to see them succeed.......however, this event is for young entrepreneurs ages 6 to 16 ONLY.

Kidpreneurs MUST have created/crafted/designed/altered their products themselves. For example, selling shoes would be allowed, but the Kidpreneur must have decorated the shoe or altered or designed the shoe in some way themselves.

Parents are not allowed to sell their own products at their child's booth.

*****If a parent is found selling their child’s product or service, their child’s business will be disqualified from the competition.*****

Parents of younger children may sit in the booth, but the children should be responsible for set up, customer interaction, and sales.

Parents may help their child fill out the application, but we expect the children to do as much as possible by themselves.

How did the Acton Children’s Business Fair get started?

Jeff and Laura Sandefer and a few other families wanted to spark a sense of wonder and entrepreneurship in their children so they created the first Acton Children’s Business Fair in Austin, Texas, in 2007. That year, there were seven entrepreneurs and around 25 attendees. Now, there are over 115 entrepreneurs and 1,500 attendees at the Acton Children's Business Fair in Austin.

Who can I contact for more information?
