About the fair
COME ONE, COME ALL to Baton's Rouge's Inaugural Children's Business Bazaar!

Thank you so much for stopping by & making time to learn about our event!

We believe that children, when allowed to unleash their creativity, can do just that: change the world. For that reason, we have partnered with Acton Children’s Business Fair, Pelican State Credit Union, Lamar Outdoor Advertising, & other community stakeholders to host a one-day business fair in our community!

To be held @ the Goodwood Library on September 28, 2024, the Inaugural Baton Rouge Children’s Business Bazaar invites young entrepreneurs & their families to come out and enjoy a fun-filled day of sno-balls, splash pads & supporting the future business leaders of East Baton Rouge Parish. In addition to an outdoor marketplace, an interactive Financial Literacy workshop will be held inside, from 2:00-4:00 pm. Thanks to the generous support of Pelican State Credit Union, this portion of the event is sure to be a fun learning experience for kids of all ages!

The Old South Baton Rouge Economic Redevelopment Group is seeking sponsorships & vendors to make this inaugural year a big success!! Your participation will make you an integral part of this community event!

If you know a young artist or entrepreneur (ages 6-16) with a small business, interesting creations &/or an entrepreneurial bent, please send them our way!

If you are a part of (or know of) an organization that aligns with our goal of empowering young entrepreneurs who will undoubtedly make up the future business community of Baton Rouge, please consider supporting The Business Bazaar with a tax-deductible donation! Your support allows us to maintain a minimal entry fee for all vendors, helps to cover the costs of the actual event, & allows us to offer cash prizes & other awesome perks to vendors & attendees.

Thank you in advance for your support, & we can't wait to meet you!

Frequently asked questions

What is the Baton Rouge Kid's Biz Bazaar?

The Baton Rouge Children's Business Bazaar aims to inspire the children of Baton Rouge and surrounding areas to discover & nurture their inner entrepreneur. The event is sponsored by Acton Children's Business Fair, the largest entrepreneurship event for kids in North America. This one-day market will give children a low-pressure opportunity to showcase their businesses & to network with likeminded children & families.

Where should I begin?

Start with our resources page. Read inspiring stories about other young entrepreneurs and play games to hone your business skills. Then be sure to circle back to this page, & fill out a vendor application!

How do I apply? Can I apply as part of a group?

Your application begins right here on this website! Please submit your application (one per business) by September 10, 2024. Children working as a group should submit one application that includes each child’s information. No more than 3 participants per business.

What is on the application?

The application asks kids to think through some simple, but important elements of their business:

  • What product or service do you plan to sell?
  • What price will you charge for each product/service? How much will each product/service cost you?
  • How will you pay for your startup costs? If someone is helping you with your startup costs, how will you pay that person back?
  • How will you advertise/market your business before the event?
  • At the end of the event, how will you determine if your business was a success?

What if someone else has the same business idea?

Not a problem! In general, we will let market forces play out, though we will let later entries know if another applicant has a similar idea so the later entrant can decide what to do.

How will the bazaar be set up?

The bazaar will be an outdoor event with booths. It's recommended that each business have least one 6 to 8-foot table, full-cover tenting, and 1-2 chairs. Table cloths will not be provided.

Will electricity be available?

Unfortunately, we are not able to provide electricity to the booths.

What are the rules?

This event is designed to give children the experience of selling a product or service. If a parent is found selling or promoting a child’s product or service, their child’s business will be disqualified from the competition.

Parents of younger children may sit in the booth, but the children should be responsible for set up, customer interaction, and sales.

Parents may help their child fill out the application, but we expect the children to do as much as possible by themselves.

How did the Acton Children’s Business Fair get started?

Jeff and Laura Sandefer and a few other families wanted to spark a sense of wonder and entrepreneurship in their children so they created the first Acton Children’s Business Fair in Austin, Texas, in 2007. That year, there were seven entrepreneurs and around 25 attendees. Now, over 115 entrepreneurs and 1,500 attendees participate in Austin's Acton Children's Business Fair, with thousands more participating at other business fairs throughout the country.
