About the fair

Kids! Create a product or service, design your booth, set your pricing, and then sell to real customers at this one-day public market-place.

The Children's Business Fair is an opportunity for young minds to innovate and become entrepreneurs. Prior to the fair, children think of a business idea and then prepare their products or service. The day of the fair, these young entrepreneurs decorate their booth and get to experience selling their products or service to the general public.

We welcome the general public to come see these entrepreneurs in action 10am-Noon Saturday May 12, 2018. This fair will be located in the Oh My Lolli alleyway off of Main Street in Brighton (next to Brighton Bar & Grill). Participation is open to all children in grades K-8th. Register Below.

This event is sponsored by the Brighton Chamber of Commerce, Acton Academy, the Acton School of Business, and the generous support of our donors and volunteers.  We all believe that principled entrepreneurs are heroes and role models for the next generation.

Whether an entrepreneur is famous like Elon Musk or Oprah Winfrey or they are one of the thousands of unsung business owners across this country, these are the people who make sacrifices to innovate, create jobs and serve their communities.

Frequently asked questions

How do I apply? Can I apply as part of a group?

Application must be submitted online. Please submit one application for each business. Children working as a group should submit one application that includes each child’s information. Up to 3 participants per business.

How is the fair set up?

The fair will be an outdoor event. Each business will be given an 8-foot table to share with one other business. Table cloths are not be provided. We are not able to accommodate businesses requiring electricity. Everything else is up to the young entrepreneurs.

My 2 children want to create separate businesses, how do I register them for separate tables?

Simply fill out the registration form twice, using a different child's name each time.

My 2 children want work on the same business, can I reserve 2 tables for them?

Each table should be a separate business with separate children in charge. Up to 3 children can work together at the same table. If 2 or 3 children are working together on the same business, please only fill out the registration form once. Please do not reserve 2 tables for one business idea.

My 2 children are selling separate items, can their tables be assigned next to each other?

We do not assign tables, it is first come first serve. Check-in starts at 9am (the selling starts at 10am).

Can my child make multiple types of items to sell?

Of course! It's their business and one of the many business decisions for your young entrepreneur to make.

Can I drop off my child and then leave?

We are not staffed to supervise individual children and parents are encouraged to stick around. To provide the full entrepreneurial experience, try to remain as hands off as possible, letting the kids take charge. Use the free time to check out the other booths!

My child is registered for a table, what time should we arrive to start setting up?

Check-in for the young entrepreneurs starts at 9am. They have until 10am to prepare their table with their items/decorations. 10am-noon is when they sell to the public.

Where can my child get business ideas?

Get inspired by watching videos of other entrepreneurship fairs around the country:

Will electricity be available?

Unfortunately, electricity is not able to be provided.

Are there any rules?

This event is designed to give children the experience of selling a product or service. Parents of younger children may sit in the booth, but the children should be responsible for set up, customer interaction, and sales. This is an opportunity for children to take charge!

Is food allowed?

"Cottage foods" are allowed. For more information on Cottage Foods, visit: Michigan Cottage Foods Information.
