Kid's Fest Business Fair in Troy, Illinois
Saturday, November 20, 2021
8:00AM - 2:00PM
This fair has ended
Find another fairOur event is part of the Troy Craft Fair being held on November 20th from 8:00am - 2:00pm. We'll have a section for the Kid's Fest with booths set-up for your child to display and sell their goods. Our portion of the event will be outdoors between the Community Center/Skating Rink and the Troy Park, in the grass.
There will be crafters selling all types of items inside the skating rink and outside in the grass, so this event already has a huge flow of customers. I think this greatly increases the chance of success!
Here some some additional details:
- Entry is open to children of all ages with an entrepreneurial spirit.
- $10 entry fee per child includes one 6' table and a chair in a shared booth. (Each 10x10 booth will contain 3 tables in a |__| shape). Please message me if you need special requirements or want to purchase additional space.
- All items must be completely handmade by the child, with little adult assistance.
- It's recommended to limit their selection to a few "like items" (For example, greeting cards, bird houses, and beaded bracelets all at the same table might be overwhelming. If a child chooses "bath products" to sell, soaps, bath bombs, lotions, etc. would all go together) (*Troy Craft Fair is not allowing sale of food.*)
- Kid's should set the pricing for their items and create signage to display on their table. (Dollar Tree has posterboard and a stand-up presentation board that works great!)
- Through the sales process, kid's will gain experience in marketing and presentation, communication, handling money, counting, problem solving, and more!
- There will be also be PRIZES! (TBD. See the paragraph below...)
This event is partially sponsored by Acton Academy & the Acton School of Business, which helps to support parents of the next generation of entrepreneurs! They will provide us $5-10 per child to assist with the cost of the fair and offer participant prizes! (The amount we receive is based off of the number of participants, so it's hard to set prize amounts in advance. I can guarantee that 100% of the funds will go towards the KIDS!).

We signed up for a booth at the Troy Craft Fair in the Spring and he sold a variety of items. He had a blast doing it, made almost $100, and learned a TON about the value of money! As a homeschool parent, I thought this was an excellent way to each Economics.
Since Troy was holding another craft fair in November, I thought we'd sign-up again and mention it to other parents that wanted to participate. I later found out about Children'sBusinessFair.org and signed up to host a fair. It's a great way to get the word out and they offer $5-$10/child of funding that helps with the cost and allows us to offer prizes to the kids for participation.
I hope you'll consider registering and having your child join us for this fun event! I'm a parent, just like you, wanting to teach my son the value of money in a fun and practical way!

Frequently asked questions
Troy Craft Fair is not allowing the sale of food, but otherwise, kid's are free to brainstorm items that they feel are marketable to the general public.
How do I pay?
- What product or service do you plan to sell?
- What price will you charge for each product/service? How much will each product/service cost you?
- How will you pay for your startup costs? If someone is helping you with your startup costs, how will you pay that person back?
- How will you advertise/market your business before the fair?
- At the end of the fair, how will you determine if your business was a success?
The Troy Craft Fair contains indoor booths in the skating rink and outdoor booths, across the street in the grassy area... this is where the Kid's Fest portion will be.
Each child will receive one white 6' table and a chair in a shared booth. (Each 10x10 booth will contain 3 business tables set in a |__| shape). There are no canopies or tents, but we're doing our best to be in the shade. Rain or shine!
If you need additional space or a different set-up, please let me know. (Troy charges $10/booth, $5/table and $2/chair for rental. For consistency and with 3 kids to a booth, I made the entry fee a flat $10.)
You are welcome to bring your own tablecloth if you want to hide items beneath the table, but be mindful of the wind. You can bring additional chairs, if you need more than one.
We are not able to provide electricity to the booths, since we are outdoors.
What if I have multiple kids that want to participate?
If they want to operate separate businesses, you'll submit registration form for each child (at $10 each). We can also position the children in the same booth (but separate tables), so it's easier for a parent to assist multiple kids.
Jeff and Laura Sandefer and a few other families wanted to spark a sense of wonder and entrepreneurship in their children so they created the first Acton Children’s Business Fair in Austin, Texas, in 2007. That year, there were seven entrepreneurs and around 25 attendees. Now, there are over 115 entrepreneurs and 1,500 attendees at the Acton Children's Business Fair in Austin.
