About the fair
This is a SUPER opportunity for our youth to share their entrepreneurial spirit! The Turtle Lake Children's Business Fair will allow young Kidpreneurs the opportunity to sell their products, inform the community about their business while having fun connecting with other children just like them!

The event boosts confidence, teaches them valuable lessons, and gives them an experience they will never forget.

They will launch their very own startup business! Each child will develop a brand, create a product or service, build a marketing strategy, and then open for customers at this one-day marketplace.

We are looking to host 15 to 50 booths at our 3rd annual Turtle Lake Children's Business Fair on Saturday, June 5, from 10am to 3pm. The event will be held in and around the Ritsche Pavillion at the Turtle Lake Village Park.

The booth fee is $25 and those funds are used directly for marketing/advertising/signage/organizational materials/prizes and table and chair rental if needed.

After clicking on the registration tab, you will be prompted to complete questions regarding the Kidpreneur's business (name, type, what you are selling, pricing and marketing information). You will be directed to a link for PayPal.

This event is sponsored by Acton Academy, the Acton School of Business, Turtle Lake Community Education, JLR Portrait Studio, ABREKKE SOLUTIONS, LLC, Northwoods Equine, Turtle Lake Area Chamber of Commerce and the generous support of local businesses and volunteers.  We all believe that principled entrepreneurs are heroes and role models for the next generation.

Whether an entrepreneur is famous like Elon Musk or Oprah Winfrey or they are one of the thousands of unsung business owners across this country, these are the people who make sacrifices to innovate, create jobs and serve their communities.

Frequently asked questions

What is the Turtle Lake Children’s Business Fair?

The Turtle Lake Children’s Business Fair inspires children to discover their inner entrepreneur. Through our national sponsor, the Acton Academy and the Acton School of Business, this is the largest entrepreneurship event for kids in North America, this one-day market gives children the opportunity to showcase their very own businesses.

How many businesses will you accept?

We will accept up to 50 businesses.

The fair will be located in the Ritsche Pavillion in 2021 which can accommodate 20 indoor businesses, 10 businesses on the covered patio, and 20 businesses outside.

Tables and Chairs will be provided. Tables will be 8 feet x 5 feet.

Businesses outside are recommended to have canopies for inclement weather.

Where should I begin?

Start with visiting our NEW website for 2021!

www.childrensfairturtlelake.wix.com

How do I apply? Can I apply as part of a group?

Application must be submitted online via this website, drop-off, or by mail. (Mail to JLR Photography, 308 Maple Street S, PO Box 145, Turtle Lake, WI 54889).

Please submit one application for each business. Children working as a group should submit one application that includes each child’s information. No more than 3 participants per business.

What is on the application?

The application asks kids to think through some simple, but important elements of their business:

  • What product or service do you plan to sell?
  • What price will you charge for each product/service? How much will each product/service cost you?
  • How will you pay for your startup costs? If someone is helping you with your startup costs, how will you pay that person back?
  • How will you advertise/market your business before the fair?
  • At the end of the fair, how will you determine if your business was a success?

What if someone else has the same business idea?

For 2021, we will allow up to 2 alike or similar businesses.

For example, two slime businesses would be okay, but the third slime entrant will be respectfully asked to apply with a different product.

How will the fair be set up?

The fair will have indoor space, covered patio space, as well as areas for tents and canopies to be set up outdoors.

Each Indoor or patio-area business will be given a booth with an 8-foot table and 2 chairs. Table cloths will not be provided.

Will electricity be available?

Unfortunately, we are not able to provide electricity to the booths.

What are the rules?

This event is designed to give children the experience of selling a product or service. If a parent is found selling or promoting a child’s product or service, their child’s business will be disqualified from the competition.

Parents with children 9 years or younger, may sit in their child's booth.

Parents with children 10 years or older, will be asked to sit elsewhere.

Children should be responsible for booth design, most of the set up (parents can help bring items to and from vehicles) and , customer interaction, and sales.

Parents may help their child fill out the application, but we expect the children to do as much as possible by themselves.

How did the Acton Children’s Business Fair get started?

Jeff and Laura Sandefer and a few other families wanted to spark a sense of wonder and entrepreneurship in their children so they created the first Acton Children’s Business Fair in Austin, Texas, in 2007. That year, there were seven entrepreneurs and around 25 attendees. Now, there are over 115 entrepreneurs and 1,500 attendees at the Acton Children's Business Fair in Austin.
